MyDormMate Application Concept
Introduction
MyDormMate is a smart dormitory assistant concept designed to address operational inefficiencies and burnout in student residence management. This campaign concept demonstrates my ability to identify a real communication and operational problem, develop a strategic solution, and communicate it clearly through a structured pitch.
1. Project Concept
This project was developed as a conceptual campaign and product pitch focused on improving residence management systems within college student dormitories. The aim was to explore how technology, communication strategy, and user-centred design could be integrated to solve a recurring challenge within Helderberg College of Higher Education.
The concept was presented through a structured pitch deck targeting key stakeholders within the college residence environment.
2. The Problem
Being a Resident Assistants (RAs) for the girl’s dormitory, we were often responsible for late-night dorm lock-ups and room checks, leading to:
- Fatigue and burnout
- Inefficient monitoring processes
- Increased safety risks
- Reduced productivity and morale
Existing systems rely heavily on manual processes and lack real-time data, making it difficult for Residence Deans and RAs to manage accountability effectively.
3. The Strategic Insight
The core insight behind MyDormMate was that residence management is both a communication and accountability challenge — not just an operational one.
A smarter system could:
- Increase accountability without increasing surveillance pressure
- Reduce manual labour for RAs
- Improve communication between residents and management
- Use data to inform better decision-making
4. The Concept: MyDormMate
MyDormMate is a smart dormitory assistant that uses AI and data analytics to support safer, more efficient, and less stressful dorm management.
The concept positions technology as a support system rather than a replacement for human oversight.
