SkyBlue Travels – Tourist Information Design

Introduction

This project involved creating mockups for an informational poster and brochure for SkyBlue Travels, a proposed tourist agency in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The case study highlights my ability to translate service offerings into clear, visually structured communication tailored to an international travel audience.

1. Project Context

SkyBlue Travels is a conceptual city tourist agency aiming to offer curated travel experiences in Dar es Salaam. I was asked to assist in designing mockups for an information poster and brochure that could be used to introduce the brand, communicate the travel itinerary, and clearly outline what the travel package includes.

The focus of the project was on clarity, readability, and appeal for potential tourists.

2. The Communication Challenge

The client needed to communicate a large amount of information, including:

  • A five-day travel itinerary
  • Included services and value proposition
  • Pricing and booking reassurance

The challenge was to present this information in a way that:

  • Balanced excitement with trust and clarity
  • Felt inviting and professional
  • Was easy to scan and understand
  • Appealed to first-time visitors to Tanzania

3. Design & Communication Objectives

The primary objectives of the visual communication were to:

  • Support the brand’s promise of a curated, stress-free experience
  • Clearly present the itinerary in a logical flow
  • Highlight the value of the travel package
  • Use welcoming, tourism-appropriate language
  • Ensure the design felt accessible to an international audience

4. Visual Communication Strategy

The design approach focused on information hierarchy and readability.

Key considerations included:

  • Breaking content into clear sections
  • Using headings and bullet points to improve scanning
  • Structuring the itinerary day-by-day for ease of understanding
  • Separating “experience highlights” from “what’s included”

This ensured that potential customers could quickly understand both the experience and the value offered.

5. Mockups Created

Information Poster

The poster was designed to:

  • Capture attention with an inviting introduction
  • Present the five-day itinerary clearly
  • Highlight the total cost in a visible, reassuring way
  • Communicate trust through structured information

Brochure

The brochure mockup expanded on the poster by:

  • Providing more detail on included services
  • Reinforcing the curated nature of the experience
  • Using consistent messaging and layout across sections

Both mockups were designed to be adaptable for print and digital use.

6. Content Breakdown (What Was Communicated)

The designs communicated:

  • A five-day itinerary including island experiences, beaches, yacht trips, and nightlife
  • All-inclusive pricing (USD 550)
  • Services covered: transport, accommodation, food, security, and tour guides
  • A welcoming brand tone focused on ease and enjoyment

This ensured transparency and built confidence in the offering.

7. Outcome & Key Learnings

This project strengthened my ability to:

  • Translate written service descriptions into visual communication
  • Organise complex information into clear layouts
  • Design with an audience-first mindset
  • Balance promotional messaging with informative clarity

It reinforced the importance of visual hierarchy in helping audiences make quick, confident decisions

8. Skills Demonstrated

  • Visual communication design
  • Information hierarchy & layout
  • Client-focused design thinking
  • Tourism and service communication
  • Mockup creation for print and digital formats
